April 1, 2025: Portland, OR – Hampton Lumber is proud to announce an innovative addition to its line of sustainable wood products with the launch of “Future Home” Douglas fir seedling bouquets. Each bouquet contains 50 premium Douglas fir seedlings that, when planted and matured over 35-40 years, will provide enough lumber to frame an entire single-family home.
“We’re literally growing homes for the next generation,” said the Director of Hampton’s Future Home Division, Helene Verdes. “What better gift for new parents than the trees that will one day build their child’s first home?”
The bouquets, elegantly arranged in biodegradable planters, come with a certificate of future lumber yield.
“We’ve always been in the business of growing trees for future homes,” said Verdes. “Only now, we’re offering people the ability to pre-order.”
The company notes that the average 2,000 square foot home requires approximately 16,000 board feet of framing lumber, which can be sustainably harvested from roughly 50 Douglas fir trees. Hampton’s forestry experts have calculated the optimal spacing and care instructions included with each bouquet. In the coming years, Hampton plans to expand its product line by offering a variety of bouquet add-ons, such as a Western red cedar cladding and siding basket.
Once harvested, each tree can be milled at one of Hampton’s premiere sawmills, utilizing optimizing technology to get the most lumber out of each log.
For those without access to productive forestland, Hampton also provides planting and stewardship services. The cost per bouquet ranges depending on location and includes decades of care and attention from professional foresters, a commemorative growth chart, personalized planting ceremony guide, and quarterly digital growth reports. A premium package includes a drone flight over your seedlings every five years.

Early adopters have embraced the concept with enthusiasm. “We planted our son’s Future Home bouquet on his first birthday,” said Portland resident, Maggie Carpenter. “His timber will be ready for harvest by his 40th birthday. It’s the ultimate birthday gift—lumber to build his own home.”
Hampton Lumber reminds customers that patience is a virtue in forestry as in life. The company cannot guarantee future lumber prices, housing styles, or that your child will appreciate your forward-thinking gift in four decades.
In preparation for the “Future Home” product launch, Hampton Lumber would like to wish everyone a safe, happy and humorous April Fools’ Day.
